Mixed media- acrylic and cotton embroidery on canvas
24 x 36 inches
Andrea Nunez de Caceres's artwork delves into her personal experiences with identity in Mexico and the United States. Her role as a nanny has shaped how she is perceived and how she perceives herself, highlighting the contrasting identities in both countries. Her artwork also hints at her birthplace, a quirky city resembling Roswell, known for its extraterrestrial fascination, adding a touch of surrealism to her experiences and work. The incorporation of embroidery in Andrea's work serves to honor and raise awareness of anonymous, undercompensated indigenous female embroiderers in Mexico. By employing needle and thread, she pays homage to the traditional craft and the women working it.
